A Pointer Forwarding Scheme with Mobility-Aware Binding Update in Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 Networks

چکیده
In this paper, we propose a pointer forwarding scheme with mobility-aware binding update in Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 networks. In the proposed scheme, a pointer chain between access routers (ARs) is established to reduce the binding update (BU) traffic to the mobility anchor point (MAP). In addition, the MN performs a binding update to the correspondent node (CN) depending on its mobility. Specifically, an on-link care-of address (LCoA) is chosen for the MN with low mobility whereas a regional care-of-address (RCoA) is selected for the MN with high mobility. This mobility-aware binding update can reduce the packet delivery overhead in an adaptive manner. We develop analytical models that consider both the binding update cost and the packet delivery cost when route optimization is supported. Numerical results demonstrate that the pointer-forwarding scheme with mobility-aware BU outperforms HMIPv6 and the existing pointer forwarding scheme in terms of binding update and packet delivery costs.

Cost-effective handoff scheme based on mobility-aware dual pointer forwarding in proxy mobile IPv6 networks
In this paper, a mobility-aware Dual Pointer Forwarding scheme (mDPF) is applied in Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) networks. The movement of a Mobile Node (MN) is classified as intra-domain and inter-domain handoff. When the MN moves, this scheme can reduce the high signaling overhead for intra-handoff/inter-handoff, because the Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) and Mobile Access Gateway (MAG) are connec...
متن کاملA Lazy Update Strategy for Minimizing Signaling Cost Using the Forwarding Pointer in Mobile IP
Mobile IP provides an efficient and scalable mechanism for achieving host mobility over the Internet. Using Mobile IP, mobile nodes may change their points of attachment to the Internet without changing their IP addresses. However, this will results in a high signaling cost of updating the location of a mobile node if it moves frequently. In this paper, we propose a lazy update strategy for min...

In IP-based mobile networks, a few of mobility agents (e.g., home agent, foreign agent, etc.) are used for mobility management. Recently, Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) was proposed to reduce signaling overhead and handoff latency occurred in Mobile IPv6. In HMIPv6, a new mobility agent, called mobility anchor point (MAP), is deployed in order to handle binding update procedures locally. How...
متن کاملExperimental Evaluation of Mobility Anchor Point Selection Scheme in Hierarchical Mobile IPv6
Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) was designed to support IP micro-mobility management in the Next Generation Networks (NGN) framework. The main design behind this protocol is the usage of Mobility Anchor Point (MAP) located at any level router of network to support hierarchical mobility management. However, the distance MAP selection in HMIPv6 causes MAP overloaded and increase frequent bindin...
